Strength For The Storms Strength For The Storms Strength For The Storms Strength For The Storms
  • And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. - 2 Samuel 22: 2-4

Like God's Love, With Each Pounding Wave Of Life He Permits To Come At Us, We Are Assured In His Word We Have A Firm Foundation In Him To Stand On.

Standing on the edge of the sea shore I marveled at its vastness, it's incomprehensible depth, and its strength beyond measure as it stretched far beyond my vision. Each pounding wave would beat against the shore with a thunderous roar and would return gentle as a lamb as it flooded over my feet as it returned to the sea—to do it again and again, like a cat and mouse game with me.

The waves were all like snow flakes, each one different, some large and some small, some so very gentle, while others passed over my feet with a gush that would almost push me over, rocking me back and forth.

As I watched the storm of waves come over my feet I noticed I would sink a little deeper into the sand as each one passed over me. My feet now began to disappear, covered by sand and gently caressed as the waves came and returned again and again. How far would the waves take me into the sand where I stood? After a few minutes, I realized my feet were completely covered up over my ankles. Each pounding wave had taken me deeper and deeper into the sand. My stance that was just minutes before so shaky with each wave was now steady. My stance had become solid and strong like a pillar of a pier stretching to the sea. While the waves continued hitting my feet I realized I had suddenly found firm sand. The waves no longer took the sand from under my feet as they came in and returned to the sea.

No longer sinking and now firmly planted I looked out over the sea again and felt God's presence—His love so vast, the depth of His Love so incomprehensible and His strength beyond measure. He had revealed to me so clearly: Life is like the ocean, so massive, so overwhelming and so full of the unknown. It is pounding against us with all it has. As it comes at us it seems to engulf us like the waves that wrapped around my feet. It can take the very foundation from under you just as the sand had eroded from under my feet as each wave like life comes at you, and then retreats, coming again and again.

Like God's love, with each pounding wave of life He permits to come at us, we are assured in His word we have a firm foundation in Him to stand on. He will always be there! The waves of life make us stronger as each one comes. Like the sand, God wraps Himself around us, holding us firm—protected—planted, like a pillar for others to see, helping us to be strong, never moved and as a shining lighthouse—reflecting His light to the world.

With every wave of life He has made me stronger! "Help me Lord to trust you no matter the size of the wave that comes or the duration of its strength. You are my strength. In You I rest. Upon your firm foundation I will stand! Amen!"
