David's covenant with Israel at Hebron. Anointed second king of Israel's United Kingdom, as Samuel had selected.
David takes Jerusalem, driving out Jebusites. (First time since Exodus.) Jerusalem becomes city of David.
David's mighty men and their deeds of valor.

David's earlier exile in Philistine city of Ziklag. Many well trained men come to him. Accompanies Philistines
in advancement on Saul of Israel. Requests to be dismissed. Returns to Ziklag, finding it invaded by Amalekites,
with its citizens and his family taken captive. Pursues and recovers all. David's army continues to grow (100,000's).
Three day celebration of feast with David's men. Israel's joy abundant.

Now king, David assembles all Israel. Summons Ark from house of Levite, Abinadab of Kirjath-jearim. Uzzah smitten by
God for touching Ark in cart accident. David, fearing God and uncertain how to bring Ark into Jerusalem,
sends Ark to house of Obedeom, a Levite. Remaining there three months, his house is much blessed.

Hiram, king of Tyre, sends gifts and workmen to David for construction of his house. David takes more wives, concubines;
has many more sons and daughters (named). Testing David's new leadership, Philistines advance twice on him.
Defeated with God's assistance, bringing much fear upon every nation.

David prepares tent for Ark in Jerusalem. Levites appointed for Ark's transportation as God's law required.
Congregation of Israel summoned. Levites' earlier failure blamed for Uzzah's death, a non-Levite.
Tabernacle singers, musicians, porters, and doorkeepers appointed. Ark now joyfully and reverently brought into Jerusalem.
Michal, David's first wife, daughter of Saul, observing David's celebration among the people from her window, despises him.

Ark placed in tent, and David makes many offerings. Blesses congregation. David's Thanksgiving Psalm.
Levites and priests to continually minister before the Lord and the Ark of The Covenant.
Congregation and David depart for home.

|
David's house now complete, requests from prophet Nathan to build a house for the Lord. Nathan assents.
God intervenes same night with Nathan, negating his permission. God will build David a mighty kingdom,
but his son is to build God's Temple. David's Prayer of Thanksgiving and Humility.

David's many battles. (Philistia, Moab, Zobah, and Syria) Cities captured. Kingdom expanded.
Garrison established in Damascus, capital of Syria. Spoils dedicated to Temple construction.
Gifts from Tou, king of Hamath, also dedicated for future Temple. Spoils from other nations dedicated as well.
Garrisons established in Edom. David blessed by God in all his goings. Ruled with pure heart toward God and justice toward his people.
David's officers: Joab, commanding general; Jehoshaphat, recorder; Zadok and Abiathar, high priests; Shavsha, scribe;
Benaiah over the Cherethites and Pelethites; David's sons, his chiefs.

Nahash, king of Ammon whom David favored, dies. Condolences sent to son now king. Unwisely mistreats David's embassy.
David enraged. Realizing their mistake, Ammon prepares for war, obtaining Syria's aid against David.
Defeated, both flee Israelites. Syria makes peace with David, submitting to his service and denying any future assistance to Ammon.

During the period of wars, Joab advances on Ammon, taking Rabbah, while David remained in Jerusalem.
David takes crown of Rabbah's king for self. Ammonites enslaved. Wars with Philistines. Giants
(one having 24 digits) slain by David's mighty men.

David tempted by Satan to number Israel. Joab reluctantly obeys. Joab odiously leaves off at 1,470,000,
refusing to number Levi and Benjamin. God angered at David. Israel smitten. David confesses.
Given choice of 3 punishments. Chooses 3 days at God's mercy rather than 7 years famine or 3 months at the hand of his enemies.
Pestilence sent; 70,000 slain. Angel of death ordered next to Jerusalem. Stayed by God at house of Arunah (Ornan),
the Jebusite. David, seeing the angel, intercedes for Israel. Buys Arunah's threshing-floor (Mt.Moriah) for altar and offering.
God appeased. Plague stayed. God's Tabernacle and Altar for burnt offering currently at Gibeon.

David commissions Ornan's threshing-floor as new Altar site and location for future Temple. Preparations for future Temple.
Summons Solomon and charges him for Temple construction. (Promise of peaceful reign, established kingdom,
and God's eternal paternal relationship. Prosperity promised only if obedient to His laws.
Ample materials and workmen provided by David. Israel's leaders commanded to assist. Commission to build.)

David now old, Solomon chosen as successor. Princes, priests, and Levites assembled. Levites numbered above age 30 (38,000).
Divisions for Temple construction and services follow lineages of Aaron's sons.

Much joy over unity of heart for service. David's thanksgiving to God and prayer for the people and son.
Congregation offers blessings, worship, and sacrifices to God. Ceremonial Feast. Solomon ascends throne.
All Israel submits to his leadership. Solomon greatly magnified by God. David dies. His reign of 40 years
recorded in the "Book Of Kings" and other writings.
