Jacob finally arrives home (Hebron) to father Isaac. Isaac dies and is buried by Esau and Jacob.

(1796?) Esau (Edom, father of Edomites) moves away from Jacob. (To hill country of Seir.)

(1729?) Jacob lives in Canaan; makes beloved son, Joseph, coat of many colors. Brothers jealous.

Father rebukes Joseph for his offensive dreams, though giving private consideration to his words.

Sends Joseph for a report from other sons tending his flocks in Shechem.

Jacob mourns at sons' tragic news of Joseph's demise. (Unaware of his true disposition -- sold into slavery.)

(1707?) Time passes. Famine occurs. Sends sons to Egypt for corn (except youngest, Benjamin).

Receives report from their successful mission to Egypt and conditions for return.

Unaware of Joseph's life in Egypt, strongly objects to the conditions of their return trip. (Benjamin's accompaniment.)

Famine continues. Jacob sends sons on 2nd Egyptian supply mission. After much debate, consents to Benjamin's going.
