Satan introduced. Eve then Adam tempted and sinned. Discovery, curse, and punishment. Garden sealed.

First humans born: Cain and Abel. Abel's murder and Cain's sentence. (Exiled to land of Nod, east of Eden.) Cain's offspring.

|
Seth's birth to Adam and progeny. Enoch translated. Noah and progeny (Shem, Ham, and Japeth).

|
Son's of God with daughters of men = giants and much wickedness. God greatly displeased. Instructions to Noah for Ark. Noah complies.

With animals, Noah and family enter Ark. Waters prevail. (1 year & 17 days = 5 months on water and 7 months on Mt. Ararat.)

Water subsides. Raven and dove released. All exit. Noah offers burnt sacrifice.

Abram, with 318 menservants, pursue and rescue. Offering and tithes to Melchizedek upon return.

|
Promise from God of son and bondage in Egypt 400 years. Promise of land (Nile to Euphrates).

|
(1911?) Elizabeth barren, offers handmaid Hagar; Ishmael born.
Sarai harshly dismisses Hagar and son. Angel returns them.

|
(1898?) Abram's name changed to Abraham. Covenant of Circumcision.
(Abraham 99, Ishmael 13, and all men circumcised.)

18.
|
|
Three men/Lord appear to Abraham. Again promise of son. Men depart for mission of Sodom's judgment. Abraham bargains for mercy.

|
Two angels at Sodom. Sodom's sin revealed. Lot's flight to Zoar. Sodom and Gommorah's destruction. (Dead Sea area.)

20.
|
|
Abraham south to Gerar. Lies to king Abimelech about Sarai.

(1897?) Isaac born. Hagar and Ishmael sent out with God's blessings.
Abraham's covenant with king Abimelech, a Philistine. Plants grove in Beersheba. Departs Philistia.

(1872?) Abraham offers Isaac at Mt. Moriah (test of faith).
Scapegoat provided. Returns to Beersheba. Informed of family in Haran.

(1860?) Sarah dies; buried at Hebron in Ephron's cave.

(1857?) Abraham sends chief servant to brother Nahor for Isaac a wife.
Servant divinely meets Rebekah at well and taken to her family (Laban's). Rebekah willingly returns with servant to Isaac.

(1853?) Abraham marries Keturah; 6 sons born. Dies at age 175.
Isaac and Ishmael bury him with Sarah in Machpelah. Generations of Ishmael (12 sons). Dies. Isaac lives at well, Lahairoi.
Twins born. Esau sells birthright to brother Jacob.

|
( 1804?) 2nd famine. Isaac goes to Gerar, to king Abimelech.
Forbidden by God to enter Egypt. Deceives Abimelech (as father before - #20). Abimelech blesses and sends away.
Isaac digs 3 wells in valley of Gerar; 3rd at Rehoboth. Covenant with Abimelech. 4th well dug at Beersheba.
Esau marries 2 Hittites, Judith and Bashmeth; Isaac grieved.

(1760?) Isaac old, deceived by wife and Jacob for first blessing.
Lesser blessing to Esau. Fearing Esau, Jacob flees to Laban in Haran (with mother's aid and father's blessing).

|
|
Jacob rests first night at Bethel. Ladder vision. Jacob called by God and blessed.
Esau spitefully marries Ishmael's daughter, Mahalath (3 wives now).

29.
|
|
Jacob reaches Haran. Works 7 years each for Leah and Rachel. Deceived by Laban to marry oldest (Leah) first.
Jacob loves Rachel greater. Leah bears 4 sons.

|
(1749?) Rachel angered; gives Jacob handmaid Bilah = 2 sons.
Leah jealous, gives him handmaid Zilpah = 2 sons. Leah bears 2 more sons (6 total), and 1 daughter, Dinah.
Rachel bears Joseph. Jacob increases in riches from Laban at God's hand.

|
(1739?) Jacob parts from Laban to Mt. Gilead. Rachel secretly steals father's idols.
Laban pursues; God warns him. Jacob rebukes Laban. Both join in covenant. Laban departs peacefully.

32.
|
|
Jacob's visions. Fearing Esau, sends servant with gifts of appeasement. Wrestles with angel at Penuel. Name changed to Israel.

33.
|
|
Meets Esau. Reconciled. Esau returns home. Jacob buys land at Shalem in Shechem. Builds Altar called, El-e-lo'he-Israel.

34.
|
|
(1732?) Dinah defiled by local prince; avenged and retaken by her
brothers Simeon and Levi. Jacob angered; fears local reprisal. All depart.

|
Goes to Bethel. Rebekah's nurse dies. Leaves Bethel. Rachel bears Benjamin through hard labor. Rachel dies; buried at Bethlehem.
Jacob on to Edar. Reuben sins with Bilah. Jacob finally reaches father Isaac. Isaac dies; buried by sons Esau and Jacob.

(1729?) Joseph's coat of many colors. Dreams. Brothers angered and jealous.
Sold into slavery to Midianites (Ishmaelites) going to Egypt. Jacob led by sons to believe Joseph killed by wild beast.

(1727?) Judah marries; 3 sons. 2 die. Wife of oldest tricks Judah. Twins born.

39.

|
(1729?) Joseph gains master's (Potiphar: Pharoah's chief guard) favor.
Potipher's wife falsely accuses Jacob. Joseph imprisoned. God is with him. Gains favor with jailor; made trustee of all prisoners.

(1720?) Joseph interprets Pharaoh's imprisoned butler's and baker's dreams.
Fulfilled as interpreted. Butler remembers Joseph as requested.

41.
|
|
(1715?) Joseph interprets Pharaoh's dreams (7 years plenty and 7 famine).
Promoted over all agriculture, 2nd only to Pharaoh.

42.
|
|
(1707?) 3rd famine. Jacob sends ten sons to Egypt to buy corn.
Joseph deals harshly with brothers who do not recognize him. Retaining Simeon, Joseph dispatches them back for Benjamin.

43.
|
|
Famine continues. Jacob again sends sons to Egypt, now with Benjamin. Joseph receives them with a feast.
Still unrecognized. Joseph's emotions difficult to contain.
|
|
44.
|
|
Fraudulently sends them away; recalls them. Secretly planted cup found in Benjamin's sack. Judah's supplication for his brother and father.
(Their filal love reveals an apparent change of heart from their past treatment of him.)
|
|
45.
|
|
Joseph weeps, finally revealing himself. Sends for Jacob. Jacob's spirit revived at the good news.
|
|
46.
|
|
(1706?) Israel (Jacob) arrives in Egypt with God's approval.
Generations of Jacob. Joseph has 2 sons born in Egypt: Manassah and Ephraim.

47.
|
|
Joseph's family appears before Pharaoh. Joseph provides residence for family in Goshen (best land of the Ramses)
with Pharaoh's blessings. Famine spreads to Egypt. Joseph discharges his appointed duties. Famine so severe Pharaoh
buys all the people, cattle, and land; seed given in return for 1/5 crops. Jacob prepares for death. Obtains oath
from Joseph concerning his burial.

|
(1689?) Joseph visits ill father. Jacob blesses Joseph's 2 sons.
Youngest (Ephraim) unexpectedly receives first blessing. Joseph assured of God's promise for future return to homeland.

|
Jacob blesses his own 12 sons

50.

|
Jacob dies, embalmed, and carried back to Machpeleh (cave of Abraham) with Pharaoh's blessing and a great accompanying host.
Joseph and brothers return to Egypt; brothers seek forgiveness for Joseph's youth betrayal. Joseph continues his Egyptian duties.
Prepares for own death and deliverance. Dies at age 110; embalmed. Bones kept in Egypt to be carried out by Moses 400 years later
(
Ex.13:19) and laid to rest by his own tribe in land of inheritance in Canaan
(
Joshua 24:32).
