John Chapter 13:1-30

III.
CONCLUDING COMMENTS.

A.
John has aptly shown us the Great Physician at work like no other on the heart of His followers. His attempt to cleanse all twelve is unsuccessful, and now He must reluctantly, albeit lovingly, purge the unclean from their midst. Satan will be defeated at the Cross and must not be allowed to remain among these early Church fathers. As Adam (who also had given admittance to Satan in another Garden) was cast from that Garden, unable to reenter, Judas must not be allowed to enter the newly emerging Church in his unclean condition. It was his choice, as it was similarly Adam's.

B.
With the eleven remaining (abiding) now clean, Satan having departed in Judas, Jesus is free to enact the first Ordinance of His Church, and in closed communion (no lost or unclean partaking), tell them of the things He could not before. Therefore, He proceeds with a New Commandment that John will later expound on. The next hours will be more intimate than the previous. John will give us great words of comfort from Jesus that the Synoptists do not record. He will give them a message of top secrecy for now (not meant for the ears of Judas and subsequently the knowledge of Satan) -- the coming of the Comforter, to which Satan could not be privy. He will regroup and come again in attack soon enough, after this Comforter gives birth to Christ's Church in Acts. The Devouring One must not be there in its infancy.
