According to these final verses of Chapter 2 and those of
3:2 and
6:1, at least two things can be said, (1) there were many present from Capernaum at this Passover, and (2) Jesus
performed many miracles that go unrecorded by John but not unnoticed by both the Jews of Jerusalem and the Jews of Galilee.
Nicodemus will be the first to seek Him out, and to His credit, not for a personal touch, but for further understanding and wisdom.
The Galileans will come for more selfish reasons. But for Nicodemus, this speaks volumes to the receptive condition of his heart
that will later come to believe on Jesus. Unlike his and Nathanael's earlier, however, the masses possessed hearts more skeptical
and selfish that caused Jesus to withhold Himself from them. Their faith was not the faith of Nathanael's, nor Nicodemus' to be.
Their unwillingness to receive Him into the rightful place in their lives was in direct contrast to those He will reveal Himself.
